Lullabies for babies that rock
When my son was a little teeny baby we didn’t really have many problems with him sleeping all night apart from when he was 2 months old and for a few months he’d wake up in the middle of the night and the only way to get him back to sleep was to take him for a drive and listen to Cotton Fields by Creedence Clearwater. Other favourites were Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Crosby Stills and Nash. It is not a coincidence this is the music I listened to while I was pregnant and he clearly recognised it and associated it to a comfortable place. When I saw the Lullaby renditions of the Beatles, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and other great artists I smiled and felt reassured I wasn’t the only one to feed a newborn baby with good quality music instead of your average Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Nothing wrong with the classic lullabies that we love and sing a lot by the way, but I think a little introduction to good music doesn’t do children any harm. I have a 6 year old – yes he turned 6 just the other week! – who enjoys a large variety of music from Jazz and Reggae to Country and seventies stuff to classical music. For his bedtime song we go from Hush a little baby and Twinkle Twinkle to Our House by Crosby Stills and Nash. The Rockabye Baby CDs with renditions of your favourite artists are available from Lula Sapphire at £14.95. Some are more recognisable than others, the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine is almost identical.
