Monday crafts: Halloween decorations made of recycled tissue paper from shoe boxes
With Halloween approaching yesterday we made some very easy bats decorations. It was a completely recycled craft as we used the tissue paper from shoe boxes. Yes, we went shopping for shoes on Saturday…in fact I was at the check out with the shoes I had selected for my son and the cashier tells me about this lovely 20% discount you get if you purchase two items…I know I shouldn’t fall for this trick but I had just seen a pair of very nice boots I would be happy to add to my collection so I ended up spending far more than I intended. I am ashamed to admit that I am a sucker when it comes to discounts and boots! The positive thing is that we now have a lot of cardboard and tissue paper for our crafts projects…and a pair of new boots of course. We used the tissue paper to make hanging bats. As well as the paper for this project you need glue, watercolours or any non toxic paint you have handy, some thread, scissors and sparkles.
- Fold a sheet of tissue paper in four
- Draw the wing and cut it out, you will be left with 4 wings.
- Paint two wings purple and two wings black and leave to dry (to speed up the process we used the hairdryer)
- Glue the purple wings to the black wings so that you will be left with two wings black on one side and purple on the other
- Build a body for the bat with some tissue bundled together, secure with cellotape and paint it.
- Attach the wings to the bundle and finish with little sparkles on the wings and some wiggly eyes on the head of the bat
- Add a piece of string and hang it
They are brilliant and will look very effective on Halloween, I’m going to make some to hang from our porch Thanks so much for joining in and Happy Halloween!
Hi Liz, I am glad you like them. Happy Halloween to you too.
