When it comes to educating children about recycling there is no better way than a playful environment, which can be paired with a reward system to keep the interest going. I have posted before about the initiative in place at my son’s school about Capitan Eco point system for recycling, a very clever initiative that has involved children and families across Italy. I am always looking for clever ways to support recycling by making it a way of life. That’s why I was so impressed with the recycle robots designed by Vanessa Moreno and Nenad Katic of OOO My Design together with the designers Marian Sánchez Aedo and Clara Bonafé for the fair-EXPOENERGÉTICA EGÉTICA 2009, sponsored by Valencia City Council.  Not only these recycling robots look good from a modern design point of view, but more importantly they are educational and fun for kids to learn about recycling hands on. These friendly robots that evoke the garden gnomes are programmed to detect the right waste by colour coding. The robots called Recycly are made of Crion, which is a very white plastic with elements of self cleaning stones, and have a backlit display to helps children to detect if they are placing the waste in the correct container. There are three types of containers: Pape, which is the paper and cardboard waste robot, is represented by the blue colour. Plasty lights up green when fed with plastic and is equipped with a clever system inside to wash the plastic waste. Compo is the robot that turns yellow when fed with organic waste and has a system that turns it into compost fast without releasing unpleasant odours.
