Monday crafts: how to reuse and recycle old furniture

Our passion for crafts has made my son’s room eclectic to say the least. There is nothing I dislike more than a perfect kid’s room that looks like it has just come out of a showroom. Mix and match is definitely the route I like to take and with so many fun products on the market is easy to let your creativity loose and decorate a room that is fun, colourful and with a lot of personality. If you have a passion for crafts, there are plenty of ideas out there to create unique pieces. There are two favourite items in my son’s room that I featured during the early days of this blog when I had hardly any readers so they didn’t receive the deserved attention. This week I decided to pull them out of the archives for those who missed them. The boring  pine bedside cabinet, which we transformed into a colourful piece of furniture during a warm summer afternoon of fun using some bright non toxic paint, paint brushes and potatoes to make our ladybird prints I take full credit for. nemo-bed-large

The other item I am very proud of, but I can’t claim as it was my husband’s project from start to finish,  is the desk, which started its life as a cot and then went under a fantastic transformation in a clever attempt to reuse and recycle, which works well for the environment and our finances. Read how the Nemo bed turned into a Nemo desk by incorporating yet another item of old furniture as the remaining pine cabinet was put to good use to make the desk’s practical drawers.nemo-desk-new
