Monday crafts: clay Easter baskets filled with shredded paper and chocolate eggs
For our weekly crafts this week we have made two little Easter baskets out of white clay.
To make the baskets you need a packet of DAS modelling air dry clay, a cup, acrylic paint, paint brushes, shredded tissue paper, and mini chocolate eggs.
To start with we made a round base for the basket using the cup as a guide. Then we built the baskets by laying thin clay strips around the cup until we reached the desired height. For a stronger hold we used a little water between layers. We then proceeded with removing the cup carefully without ruining the sculpture. To finish the basket we added a flat handle over the top.
Although we used air dry clay, we put the baskets in the oven for 10 minutes to accelerate the drying process.
Once the baskets were fully dry we finished them with a little acrylic paint.
At the end we completed the Easter feel by adding shredded tissue paper and mini chocolate eggs.
I love this and must get some air dry clay, I keep saying that! I would love for you to link to my Children’s Craft showcase http://themadhouse-themadhouse.blogspot.com/2010/03/childrens-craft-showcase-easter.html
