Another classic Dr. Seuss book makes it to the App Store. It is the turn of The Lorax, first published in 1971 and turned into eBook to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day coming up on Thursday 22nd of April. Oceanhouse Media has launched Dr. Seuss classic environmental children story The Lorax in three new apps: iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad. The story tells how the Lorax, a mossy, bossy man-like creature who speaks for the trees, tries to save the Truffula Forest and its inhabitants from disaster at the hands of the insatiable Once-ler, the mean factory owner. The Lorax’s efforts are ignored and tragedy follows. In the end there is hope for the future when the last Truffula seed is entrusted to a young boy. The Lorax is a classic story way ahead of its time that is still current in today’s world where the ecological warning is becoming more pressing.  Most importantly the eBook remains true to Theodor Geisel’s vision of teaching children to read. In fact The Lorax eBook combines the beautiful original artwork of the book with innovative features that promote reading in young children, including highlighted picture, word associations, professional narrations and  background audio.

As well as the eBook Oceanhouse Media released The Lorax Garden app, which is a fun game found in the Kids and Family Games categories. Players help the Lorax replant the world’s Truffula tree forests one tree at a time. They can design their own trees and flowers, see them grow right before their eyes in real-time 3D, and email beautiful postcards of the forest they’ve created to friends and family.

Finally the Dr. Seuss Senders app contains 100 cards with fun quotes and sayings by Dr. Seuss that can be sent to anyone instead of a greeting card.
