Monday crafts: magazine geometrical coasters
This weekend we played with geometrical shapes, which inspired today’s craft. As we pride ourselves for being keen upcyclers we made something out of what would normally hit the recycle bin. Recently I got really creative with newspaper and magazine pages, they are a great source for making anything you wish and all you need is lots of them and vinyl glue. We made a set of geometrical shaped coasters: a square, a triangle and a circle for now. For best results it is a good idea to use a mix of pages with different colours and alternate them with white pages.
1. Cut the pages of the same size and start folding into strips making sure the width is the same
2. To start building the coaster use a smaller strip and shape it into a circle, triangle or square according to the shape you wish to build
3. Glue the strips one by one building the shape with your hands
4. Once you achieve the intended size paint the whole thing with a generous amount of vinyl glue to seal it and make it solid

Ooooh these look great! What a fun way to recycle magazines. Like the different shapes too!

Ooh, cool! I’ve never seen anything like this before – B will love them.
Thanks Cathy, you’ll probably like the magazine placemat to go with coasters as well.
What is vinyl glue? Is it Modge Podge? Or a spray sealant?
I used vinyl glue to make the coasters and at the end I coated them with water based varnish for decoupage which seals them and makes them more solid.
