How to use old wrapping paper to transform an empty plastic container

The holidays are over and finally we are back to normal. It took me a day with my son back at school to reorganize my daily routine and today here I am with a brand new craft, but before I get to that let me sum up this period of blogging silence. It’s been pretty hectic around here over the last two weeks. As soon as school broke up, we were on a plane over to England to spend Christmas with family, but before Christmas in Oxford, we had a manic few days in London. It’s not easy to fit it all in one week-end, meeting up with friends, going round the shops – with a nine year old on tow – especially when you still have to finish off your Christmas shopping. But we did it and it was fun! Christmas was lovely, quiet, warm and relaxing around the fire. We were just getting comfortable and off we were again on a plane back home where a mountain of homework was waiting patiently to get done. We celebrated the New Year, between making sure my son got the right amount of help with his schoolwork, no a little bit more or a little bit less then what should be appropriate, and getting our house organized again after a week of absence.

This is the first craft of the year, a quick craft to transform an empty chocolate milk container into a colourful cotton wool container to go in the bathroom. All you need is a plastic container with its own lid; any used wrapping paper – something that we all have plenty of after Christmas – glue and scissors.

Cut the paper to measure, mix the vinyl glue with a little water, paint the glue on the container, attach the paper and paint more glue over the paper to give it a shiny effect and to seal it. Leave to dry and use to store small things. I think it makes the perfect container for cotton wool and it looks good on the bathroom shelf.

One thing I saw recently that looked really good was to use the scraps to cover otherwise plain pencils. If you’re going to decorate storage containers, why not decorate that which goes in them! :)
