Amsterdam for kids
As parents we’d like to introduce our children to as much culture as we can, but too much too soon might have the opposite effect to what we are trying to achieve so to keep it real, I try to keep museums to a minimum. A brief appreciative introduction that maintains both parents and kids happy without putting them off future visits is definitely the way to go about it. One museum kids will be happy to stay in for hours and hours is the Science Museum and Amsterdam offers a great one called NEMO. The building is on Amsterdam’s waterfront and is impossible to miss with its distinctive look resembling a large green sunken ship. Once inside the only rule is Forbidden NOT to touch, the museum offers a fully hands-on experience with entertainment and learning experiments for all ages. Younger kids can blow up large bubbles, play magnetic games and large piece dominos whilst older children step in the shoes of a scientist (wearing proper white coats and safety goggles) and do all kinds of experiments in physics, chemistry and biology in the Wonder Lab. At Code Name DNA they will explore how heredity works and why they look like their parents and see what they’ll look like at the age of eighty. The amazing Studio bits & Co is a big digital playground that lets kids experiment interactive multimedia and other digital applications used to create games, websites, video and audio productions enabling them to feel the buzz to make their own rock music videos.
