If you are not yet a yoga fan, what a better time to start a class than during pregnancy, yoga is in fact renowned to be one of the best forms of exercise for women while they are carrying a child and it also helps with labour. You can then enjoy yoga with your baby after giving birth, which does wonders for getting your figure back. This practice has become more and more popular because it enables new mothers to exercise and release stress while bonding with their baby, check for classes near you they are available everywhere. You can then continue enjoying yoga with your toddler, weather in a class or at home as a fun activity. My 5 year old loves to do yoga together, he often gets the mats out and brings me the yoga book from where he picks his favourite exercises, he particularly likes the animal figures such as the lion, the kicking mule and the big butterfly. We use a fantastic book titled YOGA FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD by Mark Singleton (Duncan Baird Publisher).
The benefits of Yoga in children are so great that many schools have adopted it as a form of physical exercise. Yoga practice develops strong flexible bodies, increases concentration and builds self-esteem at the same time, not to mention getting to grips with stress management which is so important growing up with all the pressures children are faced with today having to cope with demanding exams and peer pressure. Yoga helps children to cope with fast emotional growth, this is particularly true for teen-agers who are faced with hormonal and physical change and at the same time teaches them to channel their anger turning into positive energy. The Go-Yoga studio in West London organises yoga classes for children between 7 and 12 years old as well as offering courses to several schools across London as part of the Government Extended Schools Programme.
