We really enjoyed our visit to the Museum of London. I had heard great things about the new galleries and the interactive displays so I took my son for a little history about the capital. He is fascinated by history in general so I knew that an interactive museum covering the history of London from pre-Roman times to modern days would be a success. He was particularly impressed with the short films about the Black Death, which hit London between 1348 and 1350 and halved its population, and the Fire of London. He also enjoyed answering the questions on the computers scattered around and was intrigued by objects he couldn’t recognize such as the typewriter. We had fun playing around with the movable types and picture plates to create our own newspaper page. We sat down in a lounge area reproduced in sixties’ style and watched briefly old children programs on an ancient TV set and played with old fashioned toys.

On the ground floor there is a great display reproducing shops from the past, like an old sweet shop, a barber shop, an old bank, the bakers, a tailor’s workshop and much more.

This is a fantastic day out for school age children and it’s free!
